Technical overview
How the integration works on WordPress
- 1
Mews script via theme header or a snippets plugin
Add it in header.php, a child theme, or a plugin like WPCode, using your Configuration ID.
- 2
Date picker as a block, shortcode or builder widget
An Elementor HTML widget, a Gutenberg Custom HTML block, or a theme shortcode — your choice.
- 3
Room-specific bookings via Custom Post Types
A Mews Room ID field (ACF or native) per room opens Mews on the right room type.

Where WordPress works well
- ✓Self-hosted — you own everything, no platform lock-in
- ✓Massive plugin ecosystem (SEO, e-commerce, events, multilingual)
- ✓Custom Post Types give each room its own page and SEO
- ✓Full code access: PHP, JavaScript, CSS, all open
- ✓WooCommerce for gift cards and packages
Where it gets tricky
- △Plugin dependency: 15-25 plugins to keep updated and compatible
- △Security and backups are your responsibility
- △Cheap hosting means slow pages (hotels need a fast host + CDN)
- △No unified visual design system — depends on theme and page builder
- △Core, theme and plugin updates can conflict without a staging setup

See the serviceFrequently asked questions about WordPress + Mews
Can I connect Mews to my WordPress website? +
Yes. The Mews Distributor widget is a JavaScript library that works on any website, including WordPress. You add the Mews script through your theme header, a child theme, or a code snippets plugin. The booking engine opens as a smooth overlay on your page, so guests complete the reservation without leaving your site.
Do I need the Mews API for this? +
No. The JavaScript widget handles dates, room selection, guest counts and promo codes. The API requires a Mews Enterprise subscription and is used for fully custom booking engines built by a developer. The widget works on all Mews plans.
Does it work with Elementor, Divi or Gutenberg? +
Yes. The Mews script loads site-wide regardless of your page builder. The date picker can go in an Elementor HTML widget, a Gutenberg Custom HTML block, or a shortcode in any theme. The overlay opens on top of the page either way.
Can guests book a specific room directly from the room page? +
Yes. Using WordPress Custom Post Types with a Mews Room ID custom field (via ACF or native fields), each room page has a booking button linked to that room type. The ShowRates function opens Mews directly to that room's rates.
Do I need a specific WordPress hosting plan? +
The Mews widget works on any hosting. But for a hotel site with large photos and real-time booking, you want good performance, SSL and a CDN. Managed WordPress hosting (SiteGround, Cloudways, WP Engine) is worth it. Avoid budget shared hosting.
How much does the integration cost? +
It depends on your property: the number of room types, and whether you need room-specific booking flows, promo codes or extras. The Booking Engine Integration covers the audit, integration plan, Book Now button, date picker, room-specific checkout flows and training videos. Book a call or take the Mews setup audit and I'll give you an exact quote for your setup.
How long does the integration take? +
A standard WordPress + Mews integration typically takes 2 to 3 weeks. WordPress is flexible, but the variety of themes, page builders and plugin setups means each site needs a tailored approach.
Should I stay on WordPress or switch to Webflow? +
It depends. If your WordPress site is well-built, well-maintained and someone handles updates and security, staying makes sense. If it's outdated or plugin-heavy, a fresh Webflow build can be more cost-effective long term. I build direct booking websites with full Mews integration. Not sure which path makes sense?
