Providing value for free is something that can truly help you make progress.
But this is still a counterintuitive approach that is hard to integrate, just like the investment mindset.
Let me tell you a quick story about that, a few years ago I decided it was time to change careers.
But to do that I wanted to test the waters, and see what I liked doing or not.
So I built my own projects, and gained confidence in my marketing skills.
Then, I needed to start earning money and wanted to freelance.
While I gain skills, I still didn’t have the confidence to get paid for them. Classic fear.
So I applied to be matched with small businesses and do a 3 months apprenticeship. For free.
Yep I worked 10 hours a week for a business for free. And instead of focusing on earning money, I focused on learning, providing value and really understand the challenges.
Without getting paid for it.
But after 1 month, the business owner with whom I’ve built an amazing relationship with - felt super relieved because I owned my tasks and freed that up in her mind.
I was serious, perfectionist, strategic. I wasn’t passive at all.
So she asked me this: “I have this thing I need to do and I wanted to ask what was your hourly rate so you could help us out”.
I provided value, and they wanted to pay for it.
And damn I’m happy I waited, and let her see what I was worth.
That’s the same idea for your calm marketing strategy.
Provide value, and let them come and tell you “where can I pay you for this?”
A few ways you can provide value:

- Do office hours helping out your ideal client for free
